Custom fields
Custom fields let you attach numbers to your records — money spent, an hourly rate, glasses of water, workout repetitions — and build reports on them. They turn aTimeLogger from a pure time tracker into a flexible activity logger: freelancers use them to calculate earnings from tracked time, and habit trackers use them to count things that have no duration. Custom fields are part of the Premium plan.
Field types
There are two types of fields:
- Per duration — the value is multiplied by the tracked time. Example: an "Hourly rate" field set to 20 on your Freelance type calculates your earnings automatically ($20/hour × hours tracked), ready to send to a customer. Another example is a productivity score.
- Per record — the value is logged once per record and summed up. Example: a "Money spent" field — $30 on Shopping plus $10 on Taxi shows $40 spent that day. Other examples: amount of water you drank, or your pull-up count at the gym.
Creating a field
- Go to the Fields screen on the More tab and press '+' in the top right to open the 'Edit Field' screen.
- Choose the field type — per duration or per record.
- Select the activity types the field is valid for. After selecting the types, you can enter a default value for each of them (if you usually pay $8 for Transport, enter 8 for the Transport type).
- Press 'Save'. A new row now appears on the 'Edit activity' screen, where you can enter the value for each record — or the default value is used.
Reports
To build a report for a custom field, go to Reports, switch to Field, then select the field, date range, and types. After pressing 'Create' you can see Total, Pie, and Daily statistics. The report can also be exported to a CSV file.
You can also view field statistics quickly on the 'Field details' screen, shown when you press a field on the Fields screen.
