Automation
aTimeLogger Pro is a Tasker plugin. Tasker can start, stop and pause your activities, read which ones are running, and run a task when an activity starts, stops, pauses or resumes.
Install both apps on the same phone. There is nothing to turn on in aTimeLogger Pro, and the plugin doesn't need a premium subscription.
What the plugin adds to Tasker
| Name in Tasker | Where you find it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| aTimeLogger Pro | Task action, Plugin category | Starts, stops or pauses an activity |
| Get Activities | Task action, Plugin category | Returns the running activities |
| Start/Stop/Pause/Resume | Profile event, Plugin category | Runs a task when an activity starts, stops, pauses or resumes |
| TimeTrack Old | Task action, Plugin category | The older version of the aTimeLogger Pro action |
TimeTrack Old has the same screen, but without Stop all running and Type ID variable (optional). Use aTimeLogger Pro for new tasks.
Start, stop or pause an activity
- In Tasker, add an action to a task: Plugin → aTimeLogger Pro, then open its configuration.
- Tap Type and pick an activity type.
- Tap Action and pick what to do. See the table below.
- If you want, enter a Comment.
- Tap Save.
Save needs a type, unless the action is Stop all running or Type ID variable (optional) is filled in. Otherwise the app shows Type or type ID variable is required.
Actions
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Stop running and start | Stops all running and paused activities, then starts the type. This is the default |
| Pause running and start | Pauses all running activities, then starts the type |
| Start | Starts the type. The other running activities follow Action on start in Settings |
| Start or resume | Resumes the type if it is paused, otherwise starts it. The other running activities follow Action on start |
| Stop if running | Stops the activity of this type, running or paused |
| Pause if running | Pauses the activity of this type if it is running |
| Stop all running | Stops all running and paused activities. No type needed |
The first four actions do nothing when the type is already running.
When the Pomodoro checkbox is on in the Pomodoro settings, the list has one more action: Start pomodoro for a type from Work types, or Start break for a type from Break types. They start the type as a pomodoro or as a short break.
Comment
Comment is optional. It can contain Tasker variables: Tasker fills them in when the action runs.
The action saves the comment on every activity it starts, resumes, stops or pauses, and replaces the comment that activity had. With an empty Comment, existing comments stay as they are.
Pick the type with a variable
Type ID variable (optional) lets a Tasker variable choose the type when the task runs, for example the Type ID from Get Activities.
- When the variable holds a number, the action uses the type with that ID instead of the one in Type.
- When it is empty or holds anything else, the action uses Type.
Result
The action returns Start in UTC: when the activity it started began, in seconds since 1 January 1970. For an occurrence type, it is when the occurrence was logged. It is empty when the action didn't start anything.
See what is running
Add the action Plugin → aTimeLogger Pro → Get Activities. It has no settings.
It returns these values for every running activity. Paused activities are left out.
| Value | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Type | Name of the type |
| Path | The type with its groups: Group/Type |
| Type ID | ID of the type. Pass it to Type ID variable (optional) of the aTimeLogger Pro action |
| Start in UTC | When the activity was last started or resumed, in seconds since 1 January 1970 |
Run a task when an activity changes
- In Tasker, add a profile with the event Plugin → aTimeLogger Pro → Start/Stop/Pause/Resume, then open its configuration.
- Tap Event and pick Any event, Start, Stop, Pause or Resume.
- Tap Type and pick a type. If you don't pick one, the profile reacts to all types.
- Tap Save.
| Event | When it fires |
|---|---|
| Start | An activity starts. Logging an occurrence counts too |
| Stop | A running activity is stopped |
| Pause | A running activity is paused |
| Resume | A paused activity is resumed |
| Any event | Any of the above |
It doesn't matter where you do it: in the app, in the notification or with a Tasker action.
When no event is sent
- For the activities the app stops or pauses for you when another one starts: because of Action on start, or by the Stop running and start and Pause running and start actions.
- When you stop an activity that is paused.
- When the activity ran for less than Min. duration (see Settings). Such time is not saved.
Values for your task
| Value | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Name of operation | START, STOP, PAUSE or RESUME |
| Name of activity type | Name of the type |
| Full path of activity type | Group/Type when the type is in a group |
| Start | When the activity started. For Stop and Pause: when it was last started or resumed. For Resume: when it was resumed |
| Finish | When it stopped or paused. Empty for Start and Resume |
| Start in UTC | Start in UTC, as 2026-10-27T09:15:00+0000 |
| Finish in UTC | Finish in UTC, the same way |
| Comment | The activity's comment |
Start and Finish are in local time: the date as yyyy-MM-dd, then the time in the phone's 12- or 24-hour format. Use Start in UTC and Finish in UTC when your task compares or stores times.
Home screen shortcut
Without Tasker, you can put one action on the home screen as an icon.
- In your launcher, open the list of widgets and shortcuts and add aTimeLogger Shortcut.
- Tap Type and pick a type.
- Tap Action and pick Stop running and start, Pause running and start, Start, Start or resume, Stop if running or Pause if running.
- Tap Save. Without a type, Save does nothing.
The icon shows the type's picture and is named after the action and the type, for example Start or resume Work. Tapping it does what the Tasker action with that name does.
Troubleshooting
The action does nothing
- The type is already running. Stop running and start, Pause running and start, Start and Start or resume then leave everything as it is.
- The type was deleted, or the type ID belongs to a group. The action works only with a type.
- Stop if running and Pause if running act only on an activity of the selected type.
The profile doesn't fire
- Check When no event is sent.
